My Story
I’ve been a storyteller for most of my life.
It began when I was twelve years old, when my sixth-grade teacher (a shout out to Mr. Zimmerman) encouraged me after reading one of my first stories. I had no idea where that encouragement would lead. Years later, storytelling has taken me from that classroom to becoming an internationally recognized, award-winning author.
Through it all, what I love about writing hasn’t changed. I love creating memorable characters, placing them in extraordinary situations, and taking readers on adventures filled with danger, faith, humor, friendship, and love. Most importantly, I hope the stories I tell honor and bring glory to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
But writing is only one chapter of my story. I’m a Purple Heart veteran, widower, father of five, author, painter, cartoonist, screenwriter, and film producer. I make my home in Northern California, where towering redwoods, small towns, mountains, and the rugged landscape have provided plenty of inspiration for the worlds I create.
How the Shadow Series Began
The Shadow series was born during one of the most difficult seasons of my life.
After my wife passed away, my daughter encouraged me to write a book, hoping that immersing myself in a story might help me work through my grief. I took her advice.
One book became another. And another. Before long, Lisa and Jason Parks had come to life, and the world of the Shadow series had begun.
I initially wrote six novels through a traditional publishing company. Eventually, however, I decided to take a different path and publish independently, giving me greater creative control over my characters, stories, and the direction of the series.
That new chapter began with Shadows Never Rest, my first award-winning novel in the series. Its success encouraged me to keep expanding Lisa and Jason’s story—and to make each new mission more dangerous than the one before it.
Jason Parks is the pastor of a small rural church nestled in the foothills of Northern California. His wife, Lisa, expected a relatively peaceful life as a wife and homemaker.
Heaven had other plans.
Lisa discovers she has been given the supernatural ability to see the spiritual world hidden around them and is called to become a Demon Hunter. Jason discovers that he has a calling of his own: to become her Paladin, her protector and partner.
Together, they are drawn into a hidden war between good and evil, facing demons, supernatural mysteries, and increasingly dangerous missions while trying to hold on to their faith, their family, and each other.
Going Back to the Beginning
There is still more of Lisa and Jason’s story to tell, including how everything began.
The first three novels were originally released through a traditional publisher. When those publishing contracts expire in April 2027, I plan to introduce those stories again as newly rewritten prequels to the Shadow series.
I’m currently revisiting and rewriting them with everything I’ve learned as an author over the years. These books will take readers back to Lisa and Jason’s earliest days: when Lisa first discovers her extraordinary gift, when she and Jason begin their journey together, and when they face the supernatural forces that will ultimately change both of their lives.
For longtime readers, it will be a chance to discover the beginnings of characters they already know. For new readers, it will be the perfect place to discover how the Shadow story began.
